Welcome!
Shiba Inu Rescue of Texas, Inc. (SIRTx) was founded in 1999. SIRTx is incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation under the not-for-profit corporation law of the state of Texas and is a federal 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We are based in Austin, Texas, and also have volunteers/foster homes in the DFW, Houston and San Antonio areas.
SIRTx Mission
Shiba Inu Rescue of Texas (SIRTx) is based on volunteers dedicated to rescuing and rehoming adoptable Shiba Inu and Shiba Inu mixes in the state of Texas and the surrounding states (Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and sometimes New Mexico).
We are not a shelter, but rather a network of volunteer foster homes all over the state. Due to our small size, we tend only to take in those Shiba Inu that are in high risk of being euthanized and we cannot take in owner surrenders at this time. However, we will assist with the adoption process for a donation. We also help animal shelters and new owners with the adoption process directly from the shelters.
All Shiba Inu that are pulled and placed in foster homes are evaluated for temperament. They are brought up to date on their shots, given a physical to assess their health, and are spayed or neutered before adoption..
An Adoption Application must be completed before any home can be considered. References are required (preferably pet-related such as a veterinarian, obedience trainer, etc.) and a home visit may be requested prior to finalizing the adoption. We do not operate on a first come-first serve basis, but rather strive to make the best match between the dog and the adopter. We have the benefit of having spent time with the dogs in our homes so we better understand its needs and can determine the home that would be best for that particular dog.
Thank you for your interest in a rescued Shiba!
